A meeting was held recently about the Canadian Nature Fund high priority areas that GNB wants to conserve. It was decided decided that everyone could take a look at the areas to allow for community engagement. It's important to note that GNB has committed to holding off on designation so if these areas do get bought, it doesn't mean they'll automatically become PNAs or have restrictive management plans right away.
The high priority areas on the map below are: MRA_002, MRA_004. MRA_005 and NCC_007.
In the very near future Natural Resources Canada will be conducting a 6-week field trial testing the fungus (Beauveria bassiana) for control of the EAB in the woods between Deer Park Trails and the Oromocto River. Jon Sweeney, a research scientist involved in the experiment, has provided the following information for members of Oromocto First Nation:
As representatives of the Wolastoqey Nation, comprising six First Nations in New Brunswick, we are heartened by the recent outpouring of public support for our people.
This year has not been easy for many. Our fragile system of health care has received renewed focus in the face of a global pandemic. Marches and protests under the Black Lives Matter banner have brought people into the street in recognition of systemic racism. And, examples of that same systemic discrimination against Indigenous people have been front and centre here at home and across Canada.
